Start with the customer, not the material
A frame material is not automatically better because it sounds more technical. The right choice depends on the wearer, the retail price, the shape and how the frame needs to feel in the hand.
Acetate
Acetate offers depth of color, a substantial feel and strong design flexibility. It suits fashion-led optical and sunglasses ranges. It is generally heavier than TR90 and requires careful polishing and adjustment.
TR90
TR90 is lightweight, flexible and cost-efficient. It works well for everyday optical, blue-light and sport styles where comfort and durability matter more than a premium hand feel.
Titanium
Titanium is light, strong and corrosion-resistant. It is a good fit for premium minimal frames, but the higher material cost and production complexity need to be reflected in the retail plan.
Metal
Metal frames allow fine profiles and classic silhouettes. Finish quality, plating and hinge construction matter more than the alloy name. Ask for finish samples and check the temples and nose pads.
A simple decision framework
- Define the target retail price and expected volume.
- Decide whether the priority is color depth, weight, flexibility or perceived value.
- Request physical samples in the final color.
- Check hinges, nose pads and lens fit before approving.
- Confirm care instructions and packaging expectations.
